"You're stronger man than I
"You're stronger man than I am Gunga Din." (Rudyard Kipling)
I've only had 1 colonoscopy (Feb 4, 2011) and there is no way that I will EVER do another one (well short of a life and death situation) again! (The only reason it was done was that my PA wanted to be sure that there was nothing 'going on' there as the colon is one of the places that IBC likes to go) FOR ME - it was the worse thing I've had done - I hurt worse and for longer than after my 2 C-sections or my mast.. Even with all the pain (well I was totally knocked out for the procedure but woke up in recovery in major pain) - they were only able to access 2/3's of the colon anyway - ran into a "jumble".
My thoughts and prayers are definately with you!

I had my first in Dec and had no problems. Sure did not like the prep. I sure would not like having to do them every year.
Hugs to you for sure.

As you've had others I'm sure this one will be uneventful for you. I'm just weird!
When preping Dr made the statemnt that 1 out of 1,000 times there can be a 'tear' that we will have to take care of. We laughed about that - but apparently I'm 1 out of 10,000. They even brought the portable x-ray machine to recovery to check out - nothing 'wrong'. I'm very hard to keep 'knocked out' - and appareantly this was not different than any of the other times - he didnb't tell me but did tell Hubby that they had a Hades of a time keeping me knocked out.
You're going to be fine - it's just me that's 'wacky' but obviously while the 'norm' is an easy go - there are always those strange few who do have a hard time with something 'easy'.

Hope everything goes well for you. The Prep is absolutely the worst part. Actually, the not being able to eat is the part I hate the most. We will all be thinking about you.

I cut back prior to prep on the eating..so already hungry..hehe...makes prep easier...
from experience...
I just want it to be Friday...or even Thursday afternoon...only time I get peaceful sleep in the left over drugs in my body..for few hours..

You are definitely
Denise,
You are definitely an old hand at this. I have had 3 and now will be doing them yearly. Poor Susan, that was just not fun but you are right most of them are without incident. Like Denise, I cut back the day before the prep. I have done two types of prep. The gallon plus of fun. Just so salty tasting. And once I did one with a small bottle of some kind of stuff. Drank like 4 or 6 oz with 7 up and two ducolax tablets and then the next day the other 4 or 6 oz. It isn't done much anymore because it is very hard on the kidneys but gosh it was so much easier than that gallon jug. TMI but I clean out very well and very easily for which I am grateful. And I never feel anything or have pain afterward. One time they did my cystosscopy and colonoscopy during the same time. And my last one they did the endoscopy that I will be doing yearly with it. I figure go in to as many orifices as you need to and cut down on the need to be put under. I find the dehydration the worst and they usually have to give me insulin because for some reason my sugars go way up. Then they go down and they give me juice when I wake up or maybe they give everyone juice.
I will keep you in my prayers and good thoughts that all goes well and that it is without incident. Let us know how it turns out.

I'm so sorry.
I had my first colonoscopy in Sept. last year and I would hate to think I had to have one every year. It took three tries for the IV because of, like you said, dehydrated and being only one arm available. The blood pressure thingy had to be moved to my leg because it was interfering with the IV when it came time to inject the stuff to make me sleep. I will be there with you on Thursday. You are definitely not alone!
HUGS!!!

for some odd reason..once I GOT IN room and knocked out..they gave me narcotic pain killer..soon as I opened my eyes held my mouth..knew i was gonna be sick..they gave me some anti nausea med in IV...(normally i wake up and good to go in 10 mins) I had to go to the bathroom and had to have my hubby hold me up on way to and from..go to room to sit for a bit...thought ok..got to elevator and vomited..back to bed..another IV PUT in and more meds...
I have never had pain killers in 20 procedures...why this dr decided to this time..is beyond me!
crazy..

I have had pain killers put in the IV for other surgeries but at the same time they also put in the anti nausea stuff so I didn't have that problem with vomiting. It's odd that he felt you needed the pain killers if you havn't had them before. I didn't have any with my last colonoscopy. Sorry for that set back. It's bad enough to have this stuff done but add puking after it and ugh. And yes, the vomiting can make you so weak. After all you have already fasted, cleaned everything from your body and are so dehydrated. Hope you are feeling better and that the results were good. My daughter's name is Denise also. I just love the name. Don't hear it too often.

My first Colonscopy I could have handled "puking" (well I did some in recovery which I have NEVER done after being 'knocked out' before) the PAIN and bloating was BAD! Thankfuly I had worn a very baggy/long sweatshirt - the jeans I wore in were not tight at all but could not get then within 3 inches of buttoning so I left with unbottomed jeans with sweat over them. Pain was worse that either C-section and they didn't even get the whole scope done.
