    Welcome
    Hello Susie and Brendon,
I have been following your story, and wanted to tell you that you have found the most wonderful cancer site. William is an excellent person to talk to. I was a caregiver for my dad. He passed away on March 9, 2010 from EC. Susie, you are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the good work. Keep doing your homework, and write everything down in a personal journal. You will need to refer back many times. I agree with William, finding a thoracic specialist is top priority. If you are closer to TX, where your parents live, MD Anderson in Houston is excellent. Of course the University of Pittsburgh PA is also very highly recommended! Sometimes you have to travel to get the best treatment, but Brendon's life is well worth the effort. Take a deep breath, take it one day at a time, give yourself some "me" time, ask for help with the girls, take any help that is offered. You do not have to be Super Mom and Super Wife all at the same time. Come here often. Know that we are thinking of you and praying for you both. Keep a positive mind!! Have a strong faith. Peace.
    Tina in Va

    Thank you!
William and Loretta - Yes, I got your message....Lots of information to absorb and busy all day at the hospital yesterday and part of the day today. I will re-read your letter and get back with you! :-)

Tina - Thanks for your words...Super Mom...Super Wife...I don't even come close but I do do the best that I can. I'm sorry to hear about your dad passing away. My dad died of cancer too so I feel the loss you must feel... I pray every chance I get and I appreciate and we need everyone else's prayers. I have said prayers for everyone I have met through this site and for those I haven't.

Okay...time to go fix something for Brendon to eat....

    I will keep in touch...thanks!

    Susie, You are very
Susie, You are very fortunate for your husbands parents to be able to help out. I had a lot of good support when I went through treatment. Encourage his parents to keep notes also. There is so much information coming at us when we go to the doctor. I suffered from chemo brain (it's real) and didn't remember everything that was said. Thank goodness, there was always someone with me to remember and take notes. Always ask for copies of test--CT's,blood etc.
You both are in my prayers,
    Sandra

You are 100% correct. We are very fortunate and blessed to have Brendon's parents around. (sometimes its nice to be reminded of this because I seem to get irritated with his mother from time to time) Living still 3 hours away from my husband and trying to juggle our three kids as well...I am grateful they can be there with him when I can't. I know he's so very scared even though he tells me he's not.

I do have a question about something you mentioned...you said you suffered chemo brain. Can you tell me a little more about this? When did it start? What exactly is it? Did it go away after you stopped chemo?

This site is extrordinary and all the people are so helpful. One day, I hope to be the one to help answer questions for new-comers...but at this point in time...I still have so many questions!

    Thanks!

    Hi Susie, We joke about
Hi Susie, We joke about chemo brain, but it can happen. Sometimes, the mind just goes blank. Things that you know, just want come to you. Examples--One day I was asked my address. I could not remember the number. I was giving the person all kind of numbers. He said " Don't you live in the 16 hundreds? No, I live in the 13's. I had to look it up. He was right. Not being able to use the debit card, because the code leaves you. I was very fuzzy during chemo. My pastor is going through chemo now, and sometimes right in the middle of a sermon, he forgets what he's saying (this doesn't happen often).
Yes, it does go away after treatment. I don't know, if age has anything to do with how bad it can get. I was 64 when I went through it. It can be frustrating!
    Praying for you and Brendon,
    sandra
