OT - Last WWI Veteran dies
Thank you for your service Sir and may you dwell in peace forever!
Susan
Did some research and need to add - He is the last American. There is a man who was born in 1901 and was in the Royal Navy - he moved to Austrailia in 1926. There is a woman (born 1901) in England who was also in the military in some way - not amny women back then. There is also a Polish man who was on the German side.

saw this
I saw this on the news at lunch today. It said he was an ambulance driver during the war.
Like you said, I too thank him for his service to our country. Can you imagine the things he's seen in 110 years!?
May he rest in peace.

Country PROUD. 110 years of age, how wonderful is that? The down side is that he probably lived longer than his wife, and his children.
Thank you for serving and protecting us.

The NPR story I heard said that while he was a prisoner in WWII his weight got down to less than a 100 lbs, and he still led the prisoners in calisthenics...amazing! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.0 -

This is about the age of my grandparents. They passed away in their 80's and had a good life. Now I have 2 aunts(their daughters) who are 92 and 94.The 94 year old looks like she is in her 60's and walks a mile or 2 a day during spring and summer to see her brother(80) and sister who are in a advanced care section of a nursing home. My 92 year old aunt just became feeble a few months ago. The 3 of them were so close(my mom too) and now the oldest sister is left alone with not alot of commuication from her brother and sister. But she visits and cares for them in a way she is able.
It is remarkable this man lived so long.He is a hero.He will always be remembered by everyone. Not just being a war veteran but the longest living WW1 vet.0
