    Do not guess!
Call your oncologist and report it. If it is serious pain call the exchange and ask for a call back. He may send you to the ER, or he my recommend a stopgap till your next appt.

With chemo side effects it is best to keep your medical team informed and to let them make the frontline decisions.

Once you know, soliciting experience from those on the board can be helpful.

    Avastin
The only side effects of Avastin that would think of showing up is bleeding and high blood pressure (in my experience and symptoms effects listed) . I highly suggest calling your onc's office as the others have, he's paid good money, he doesn't mind you calling whatever time or day, so please do so.

    Agreeing to call the DR
but constipation and trying to force out a bowel movement is a quick way to get a hemorrhoid. They can be internal or external. They can bleed or they cannot. A double hemorrhoidectomy is how my cancer was discovered.

If your husband has already had the resection surgery, that will be the doctor to talk to about hemorrhoids as well. At least for me it was.

They are so extremely painful that I hope you find some relief soon. ♥

It's hard for you not to worry. As everyone say's you should get him to call his dr, even if he feels he's ok he can just have a chat to him on the phone.

    Hi Joy
Avastin would not be the cause of this.

He could go to a colon surgeon and let them examine him physically, they might be able to see it depending on its location.

If it were further up in the colon, then a colonoscopy might be the best way to see what is going on down there - this sure sounds like what it is, I'm going through the same thing right now.

Whether or not your husband could do a scope right now, would depend on what your oncologist says about it. And unless it was a dire emergency, they do not want to do any operations while a patient is in chemo treatment. You did not mention Folfiri or Folfox, only Avastin...but still the doc will know best.

And passing gas is always a great thing - it indicates that the pipes are not backed up.

But passing gas and experiencing pain (know that one, very painful) indicated to me hemorrhoids - that and pain while sitting. You might get him one of those "foam donuts" than he can sit on, they really make a difference.

It's amazing what we take for granted and those anal tissues can get really tender and hurt when pressure is applied of any kind.

Is he experiencing any bleeding at all? If so, also a hemorrhoid possibility or an anal fissure (have that too and had them before) so they can take awhile to heal and will bleed.

Please post back when you know more.

it lowered the pain, a couple of levels, i got it over the counter but was direct to do this by radiation onc nurse.

also the gas i get often, when i think my gut is rebuilding from chemo , something to with probiotics. i thought the gas was a good sign.
