Thanks for your review. I had mixed feelings about it too. Natalie Portman did a fantastic acting job with the part ... but, I found that the beginning of the movie kinda drug along for me and I had some trouble becoming engaged in the movie for quite a while. With all the great reviews (which never helps before you see a movie) I think I was expecting something a little "better". I liked it OK but didn't love it and while I'd nominate Natalie for her performance, I wouldn't nominate the movie itself, though some of the coreography and swan costumes were very good too. Seems that every character in the movie had some major psychological problems!!!!

    Good reaction!
Aha! See... and that's exactly why I thought this movie was good.... not because of the subject matter, per se. I guess one could call it a psychological thriller, although I think the script failed in that aspect. It was obvious that she had psychological problems but I bet everyone would have a different opinion as to what was the reason for these problems. I don't think she was so obsessed by dance that she drove herself insane... if anything, I think her mother (who I think was really unstable) drove her insane. Where the script failed in my opinion was... was anyone actually after her and if so, for what reason? Was her understudy really out to do anything to be able to take over her role, or was it all in her very disturbed mind?

So did I like the movie? I loved the concept of it, the idea, but I don't think the writers took it far enough so I found the writing actually very weak. But the choreography was great. The cinematography, especially the one dance sequence where she grew the black feathers and became the Black Swan, was fantastic. I think Natalie Portman did a wonderful job of the role and the dedication she had for it... taking dance training of that calibre for a year before they filmed it shows real devotion to her art. Granted, she had dance training as a youngster, so that would have helped... but this was no easy kind of dance to just pick up for a movie role. Also, I really really liked her understudy, Mila Kunis... now there is a star in the making. Who would have ever thought someone of her talent was married to Home Alone's Macauley Caulkin??

Anywho.... The King's Speech should win hands down over Black Swan for best picture. But Natalie Portman definitely should win for Best Actress. I love movies that make you think... and then when people think about them, everyone has a different opinion as to what did it mean :)

Black Swan definitely wins hands down over all the silly rom com movies out there with people like Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, etc. Those are such a waste of movie dollars... but are very popular with the general paying public. Go figure? :)

    I agree
Yes I also say this was one weird movie but it was my wife's choice that night. However I did see The Rite with Anthony Hopkins last night and I thought that was really good, he is such a wonderful actor.
