I posted last week that as a stage IV (dx 9/11/06) I just had a clean ct scan 2 years POST chemotherapy. Well, I'm throwing myself a port removal party and made t-shirts for all my guests. Check out my Expressions page to see them...not a big fashion statement...but those who have been thru this journey with me will appreciate them.

It's a big day in the cancer
It's a big day in the cancer world when you can get your port out!!! I asked my surgeon if I could keep mine. He said somehow I knew you would ask me that...then said something about hazardous..infectious waste etc.... blah blah blah... Celebrating with and for you! Congrats!

    Smiles,
    Dawn

I am so happy for you!! I know I was very happy when I got mine out. It definitely is a leap of faith, but I was sick of trying to hide it and the constant reminder.

What a great idea and what a
What a great idea and what a long battle you have endured and guess what, YOU WON!!!! Congratulations! I am new to this battle and wondering what is the general rule with port removal - my chemo treatments will wrap up in mid-June, any thoughts on what happens next? Haven't discussed with the doc, but curious to get any thoughts and/or experiences.
    thanks

    Port removal
My onc told me I could have the port removed a year after chemotherapy ended...but my regular doc is superstitious and insisted I keep it in 2 years POST chemotherapy so that's what I did. I've had it flushed once a month since. Tuesday 8:00am its outta here!

    I had my port removed
I had my port removed shortly after my 1st three month checkup, guess it depends on what your Onc tells you. I wanted it out, was sick of having to hide it with shirts so no one would see it.
