Valentines' Day

Ok, it is official. I hate Valentines' Day! Not the day itself, but all the commercials, etc. leading up to it. I got so tired of watching romantic couples everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti romance or even couples. I just got tired of it being thrown in my face everywhere. I don't remember it bothering me as much last year. I guess everything was just too raw then. Maybe, this new feeling is a sign that I'm better. I just thought I'd vent a little. Fay

    It's ok, Fay
You know, even before losing my love, I always felt that the commercials were so annoying! They want folks to buy into the idea that if your sweetie doesn't get you a diamond, he really doesn't love you enough! Or how about the expensive car commercials during Christmas? I think I'll get him a pricey car, have them put a big red bow on it and deliver it Christmas morning! Please!

I know that this day is celebrated between couples. Thank goodness the retailers realized that "love" can be for others, too! Imagine the millions they would lose if they hadn't included "us"!

Oh well, all that being said, without spending a dollar, I send to you today a sincere sentiment from my heart. I cherish your words and hope for some "sweetness" in your day!

    Valentine's Day....Blah
In agreement, could bypass this holiday. Last year Oprah had a show on Valentine's day that focused on love...love of family, parents, siblings. She even had a segment about a horribly abused dog that was adopted by this family who gave it a wonderful home. Maybe that is where our thoughts should center...the loves of our lives are no longer here, but there are so many others that are here. We learned that life is so unpredictable, we need to hold those we love close.

    Valentines Bah Humbug!
Its a conspiracy, I tell ya. Hallmark, Kay Jewelers, Flowers.com... An unfair and awful marketing blitz that I never really bought into before Mike passed.

This year, one of my friends is calling it "Singles Awareness Day" (Cause if you're not attached, you definitely know it) LOL

    Valentine's Day
I agree that its all just too commercialised. too much hype! I agree with you too Fay about it all being too raw last year.
I just wanted to share a nice thing that happened to me.
In Oct I celebrated my birthday and out of the blue received flowers from my secretary on my birthday. She knew it was my birthday but I had only joined the firm 4 months before that and we really weren't close enough for her to be keen to get me anything much less flowers (which have always brought me joy). Hubby always sent me flowers on my birthday. Part of me wondered at the time if he had a hand in the way things turned out.
On Saturday I minded my friend's kids so they could have a couple night out. Again this is a family I have known for only a short while. The couple gave me a massive basket of red roses to say thank you so again somehow I got my flowers for valentines. Perhaps I am reading too much into it but it so feels like his touch. I am not going to over think it. I am just going to enjoy feeling loved!

    Nice
How wonderful! I agree, don't over think it. Just enjoy. I got a very sweet call from my two youngest granddaughters. Maybe the day isn't so bad after all. Fay
