As a result of the surgery my cheeks are glued together. Anyone know if this is permanent, or will the glue come off with time?

    Well.mine weren't glued but stitched......
I would think that the glue is to prevent any opening up until its healed...Radiation back there does major tissue damage and Im sure they had to roll it under pretty good to get to the "meat" that would hold stitches....If I am right it most likely feels like a pair of socks has been sewn up in there. The glue may just be an extra precaution and Im sure in time it will come apart...but, im sure it won't be much......wishin ya the best in this....Buzz

    Surgical super glue
I too had this instead of stitches in that area.

It will come off in time.

    Glue
It is permanant,if you have a permanant colostomy. It has to grow together, and you better hope the stitches don't tear,if they do then it will take a long time to heal.Mine tore, and I had to have the nurse come out every day to change the bandages, and I had to wear a pad for all the blood that was leaking out.It took a lot longer to heal.I had glue and stitches. If that happens I hope you don't have to wear a wound vac.Good luck.

    All glue
That I remember discussing with the surgeon in the hospital.

Also, my Home Health nurse was very pleased by the way the wounds were glued.

Sorry to hear about your stitches busting loose! Does not sound like a fun way to spend your time!

    No Prob.
    Surgery was March 19, 2010.

Isn't it amazing how the dates related to our journey remain so clear in our minds.

I too was surprised when on a check-up the surgeon explained it to me. He said they had much more success with it than with stitches.

Worked for me, I am glad to say.

    Hard to tell
To be honest with you, between showers, baths and such I think it just goes away a little at a time.

I never noticed an 'big glob' of glue coming off.

On one follow-up appointment the surgeon went to pull at a loose piece but let it alone when he found it was still slightly attached.

    Mine was all glue
All of mine in that area were glue only.

Had staples for the external major incesion.

Had stitches on all internal spots.

    Stitch for me.
I also had stitches. I had drainage less loose after being hom from the hospital two weeks, scared the #@%^ out of me, soaked my kitchen floor. Had to pack it with gauze for a week then just when I thought it was closed up and healing I tried driving my car and ripped it open about an inch. Dam that hurt. It didnt close up completly until about 7-8 weeks post op. Sounds like the adhesive might have been a better alternative to th stitches.
    Good luck Buck,
    Tom

Thanks to all for the help
Especially Marie for the answer I wanted to hear!

    Buzz,

Thanks for being there man! Glad we newbies could teach you something new!

Btw, the newer (and better) liquid bandage stuff is just a slower drying version of superglue.

See, there's always something new and hopefully more beneficial
for us, coming out of the world of medicine, science, technology,etc....New drugs, more precise radiation,less-invasive surgical procedures, better nutrional knowledge, investigation into alternative/complimentary treatments.......

glue instead of staples/stitches....who would have thought!!!!!!!!!

I got nailed instead of plastered less than a year and a half ago!!!!!

I was still peeling glue off my belly
8 weeks later. However, it eventually came off. My abdominal incision was glued this time instead of staples - a 6 inch incision. The glue held long enough for the raw edges to heal together.

    Mine....
Gracie......Imagine this ......someone splitting you from as the ole saying goes " a-hole to elbow" and then taking a pair of socks and rolling them up, placing them in to where they split you and sewing it all back together....then everytime you try and even think about sitting down the first thing that goes through your mind is the excruciating pain in your behind. It doesn't take long to see that it wasn't a good idea. It also feels as if it will split wide open when you sit down and the thoughts of your tail opening wide up is one of many haunts that goes through your mind, much less the thought of falling and straddling something like a boat is always in the back of our minds...It eventually gets better but it is perhaps the hardest surgical experience I have ever known...and I don't mean to speak for Buck, I would like to hear his story as well to relate it to mine...I hope this helps clear up questions you may have, I don't mind talking about mine at all, or any part of it......buzz

    Glue may be gone
It may just be that my cheeks are getting to know each other better, in a permanent kind of way.

Feels weird, like I could pour water in the top and it would flow out the bottom :)

    careful spreading those cheeks.
My butt is closed up tight.........however.....it still feels like I could split it wide open if not careful. Buzz talked about stepping onto a boat, thats a scary scenario. How about stepping one foot out of your car and trying to stand when you realize that foot is on a sheet of ice and its starting to move rapidly. its happened to me. luckily I was able to grab the steering wheel fast enough to pull me back or I would have split for sure. I don't know how long before one feels comfotable with the stitch/glue job but I'm sure not there yet.
