I could not wait to get mine out, forced myself to eat solid food and put some weight on to convince the docs to take it out. Kind of freakey when they pull it out, but what a releif, now cann't wait to have my pic line taken out next week.

Welcome to the club. Watch for seepage, and any signs of infection. Does happen. Small price to pay for being in this club. Great to hear.

FEEDING TUBE
Bob, what series of events occurred when you knew you had the confidence to live without the tube?
I am eating food by mouth, but mostly soups, pasta, caseroles ETC. In addition to that I can easily drink numerous bottles of Boost, Ensure, ETC. I do not consider Boost a real food, just a way to get calories. I theoretically could dring enough of these to get 2000 cal. /day, but I think until I am rid of multiple bottles of this stuff, I am not eating enought solid food.
Your thoughts??

Hey Mike,
As soon as I could get the calories I needed in by mouth every day, I scheduled the appointment. I was only waiting for a burn on my tongue to heal and as soon as that happened I started eating again. It took me 2 days to completely switch over. I get 1500 of my calories by smoothie and the other 1000 or so with whatever I want. I was a smoothie guy before cancer anyway so no real big change. I'm including my smoothie recipe for you as well as a coconut mousse recipe that really rocks. Happy eating budddy!
Smoothie
1 cup raw organic almonds
3 cups water
Blend until smoothe and then add:
1 tablespoon organic olive oil
1/2 cup organic prune juice
1 scoop NOW TRU FOOD VEGAN
6-8 raw organic spinach leaves (or kale or romaine or collard greens)
1/2 cup organic blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 raw organic apple
Blend to desired consistency. Add extra water or ice cubes if you want it cold or more liquid.
That is also the food I used for tube feedings all through radiation. The Vitamix makes it able to go through the tube no problem. I always used the kangaroo bags instead of the bolus method.
Coconut Mousse
1 can refrigerator cold organic coconut milk, 1/2 cup favorite fruit, agave nectar to taste. Blend until smoothe. This bad boy packs 800 calories in just 18 ounces and makes your taste buds sing! Enjoy Mike. I hope you get that tube out soon. It feels so good to be free of it.
