Joann, we get these
Joann, we get these disturbing posts every once in a while, but for the most part , everyone on here is supportive and helpful and sincerely wants to hear what the other women have learned through experience. I'm sorry that Canjun was able to get into your head. Already having done my rads, I knew that she was really freaking out over something relatively simple and painless. Yeah, I had a couple of bad burns at the very end, but nothing that kept me from working or doing anything else I wanted to do. I finished mine the day before Thanksgiving, flew to Chicago , and helped my daughter cook for 40 people.
Canjun kept posting like she wanted advice, but she wouldn't listen to any of us, and ended up angry that we wouldn't just agree with her misconceptions.
Anyway, don't let one confused individual upset you so much. There are many many women on this board who you can trust.

JoAnn, don't throw out the baby with the bath water. There are always going to be a few unbalanced folks on any message board. If a post seems "off" to you, ignore it. And Cajuncutie's posts, in my opinion, had been way off for awhile now. Take the good and leave the bad--that's my advice :-)0 -

I also thought her posts seemed a little "off" for awhile as well and just chose not to react to them or post back to them. By the way, I had 33 rads which finished up in July '10. All went very well. I had a little sunburn-like area in one spot and of course, the fatigue, but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat to battle this disease if I had to.
Good luck to you. Stay strong and focused. You can do this.

P.S. I forgot to say that I had 6 weeks of radiation back in 1987 and then 2 weeks in 2009. Both times, no real problems (mild sunburn first time; second time some queasiness). So don't let her get you worried--compared to chemo I thought rads was a cakewalk!0 -

There had been several posted which we caring people wasted our time on and energy caring about. Frustrating.

radiation scan with no problems on 2/8. I am anxiously waiting to start, but my doctor wants the results from a PET scan and bone scan first because my tumor markers were up to 41 (they were 31 pre-treatment and 36 during chemo). Needless to say, I am very nervous about the results.
The disturbing thread had me very scared, but I found that the actual procedure was only 10 minutes, so nothing she was saying made any sense to me at all.
I just feel so fragile and this was a safe place. I know it still is, I'm just feeling raw and vulnerable.
Thank you for all your words of encouragement. I know that radiation will be ok, it is my right breast and my doc said he didn't even think I would burn, maybe just get a bit red. I just wish I could start already instead of having more tests and all the waiting they involve.

Try not to let it bother you. Something was amiss from the beginning. We did try and have compassion, but that wasn't what she was really looking for.0 -
Joanne as everyone has said.
Joanne as everyone has said. Move on-- sometimes this happens but for the most part we are all in treatment, or completed treatment or just starting. I had 8 round of chemo and 33 radiation treatments. I did not have any problem with radiation. I used aloe given to me by the radiology nurse and corn starch to keep the area dry. They also gave me an rx for silvadene and I have a very large jar sitting in my medicine cabinet unused. We are warriors here, we will give you support and share our experiences so that they may comfort and help you. Dont let one person destroy the help that is available to you on these boards. God Bless you. We understand as few others really can because we have walked the walk. Hugs0 -

I do not know what
Joann:
I do not know what cajun wrote but please dont listen to hear. Everyone is hear to help and support. I had 33 rads, got a good box tan, small burn that I had to miss a couple days that were made up at the end and some fatigue. I went and had rads then drove an hour and half to work. I did have to take a couple of days off of work due to the fatigue, (doc required, I didnt argue) but other than that all things went well.
Praying that your scan comes back clean and you can start rads soon.

JoAnn,
Like the ladies before me have said, "Please do not let one "unstable" person upset you! I read a couple of her posts and knew right away that they were fake. This board is really full of wonderful people whom are there for us. I went through rads and did not burn. I used the cream as directed and my radiologists kept an eye out for any changes. I finished last May and my left breast area is still tan! It was painless and I enjoyed the interaction with other people and the radiologists! Not that it was fun, but, a lot better than chemo! I have all the faith in the world that you will be fine and PLEASE trust in us to hear you and be there! We do understand!! Love Carlie0 -

as the ladies mentioned, I was puzzled by her comment regarding rads. I've had 28 with minor burns that were treated with cream.
I agree to not let this scare you off a truly helpful website.
Hugs to you,

I haven't been on for a few days but I know that the last time I posted to her she was ranting about the treatment she had received going for her mapping. Everything she wrote seemed off. I have 4 more rads to go and so far I'm only a bit pink and have some tightness in my chest. I use Miaderm cream and it's worked very well. Please don't let a bad post stop you from posting.

The ladies on this site has helped me, and given me so much info. If I want to know something I ask here, because I know one of the Pink Warriors will know. Your dr. and tech team will moniter you. If you have ANY concerns discuss it with your dr.
The rad machine can be somewhat intimidating, but once you go through it one time you will be more comfortable, and more calm.0 -

I can totally understand your being shaken. Everyone has a different experience. One lady that went same day to rads as me, she was 80, had a bad reaction but still managed to keep going after the doc addressed the issues. I sailed through mine. 25 sessions of entire right breast and 8 session they called the Blast, right on the site. Last session was 10/12/10. The other day I was in a fitting room and noticed I still have a square tan mark. Can't see it in normal light. Funny.
The mapping was interesting. I was fascinated by the huge machine. I took my 13yr daughter to one session so she could see what it looked like. She thought it was freaky and cool. I think the most annoying part was having to lay on that flat surface, I am thin and my shoulder blades never got comfortable.
I would have to say that I was never scared of the rads. After all the crap we go through with chemo, rads was easy. I was really fortunate to have not even got tired from it. I hope you are just as fortunate.0 -

Dont let her scare you away. These wonferful supportive ladies have helped me through a lot of hard proecdures and knowing they have been with me helps SO MUCH. I've had rads twice, never thought not to. I had no major reactions at all my biggest complaint would of been the super dry skin. Please hang around you will find, like most of us have said, we are a special group of ladies you will just LOVE US!!!

Don't give up on coming here. We have all been scared at one time or another and I am sorry that the posts of someone who needed more help than we could give scared you so badly. Please try to put it all out of your mind. I had 33 rads - the last 3 in 2 days, but that's another sotry. I did not burn much but as others have said I do have a tan square. I will admit that I did suffer from fatigue but with the help of my PC dr. I made it through.

She was a troubled soul and I hope she gets some help because her problems go far beyond cancer. We get these people once in awhile, that create drama, tension, or anger on the board. I stopped responding when she said her tech told her to shut the F up and take it. Seriously, I cannot image any tech in any situation saying that. It wasn't the first time that she complained about treatment. She said back in September that when her port was put in that she was give pain meds even though she didn't want them (yet about rads she said she couldn't tolerate any pain). She also said that they threatened her with a DUI. I think she meant a blood alcohol test. I don't know if she had a drinking or drug problem or if she was a complete fake but I sincerely hope she gets some help. In perspective we are mostly a supportive, caring, loving group and that is what you should focus on. Rads is no picnic and some have had burns and extreme fatigue with them but mostly it is burning that can be controlled with the creams and your doctors will be there if you have anything that needs to be addressed. And the fatigue varies from person to person. I was fortunate that I only browned and peeled and while I was tired after my treatments I did work the whole time. Left work in the afternoon, did my treatments, went home and if I was tired I napped and my hubby stepped up to do our cooking and cleaning when I was too tired. Some days I did it, some days he did. Weekends I napped and vegetated and recouped my strength. Hoping you will stay. We are caring, supportive and for the most part normal.0 -
don't be afraid..
Being scared of the unknown is perfectly normal....I started radiation 3 weeks after I finished chemo....I was very apprehensive just as I was before starting chemo...probaly a little more so of the radiation..huge, big machine,etc..But all went well...I had 33 treatments, the last 7 were boosters..I never burned..I can't tell you how faithful I was using the creams given to me by my radiation oncologist..I carried it in my purse and as soon as the treatment ended I slathered it on before I dressed and did it 3 more times before bedtime...just never put ANYTHING on the breast within 4 hours of treatment...it can interfer with the rads...and only use deodorant that they give you...it took longer to undress, just my top, and redress than the actual treatment..personally I never opened my eyes during...as soon as the tech's left and shut the doors so too did I shut my eyes! I did have fatigue that lasted quite a while..like chemo, the side effects are cumulative..I was fortunate that when ever I needed a nap or to simply do nothing, I was able to do just that!
PLEASE don't let the rantings of someone whom perpetuated a hoax scare you...SHE should be ashamed of herself! Personally I never believed her crap in the first place, was suspicious from the get go! I worked in the medicine for years... So look at your rads treatment as the last leg of your journey..see the light at the end of the tunnel....I looked at rads as"my job.". You can do it! I found rads so much easier than chemo...please keep us posted on your progress..we care..this board is full of caring women with REAL STORIES of their experiences!
Peace be with us..
