Doxorubicin
hi everyone, my mother has stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to the bone and liver. A month ago she started cisplatin however, the platelets started dropping and when she did the pet scan the result came as there is bone marrow infiltration. The doctor started her on doxorubicin, she took her first dose 2 days ago. What im confused about is that there are still no side effects whatsoever after this chemotherapy and i have read that it is a strong chemotherapy that causes alot of side effects. Can someone please help me find out whats going on?

It took a while for me to really notice the effects of the medications, well into the second dose. And everyone is made differently. The targeted cell for different places in the body may be why the effects are not a noticeable. However, it will happen as chemo ensues. Also, doses are per body weight, and another consideration is health of thepatient and their age. My oncologist reduced the dose after the first infusion because all my important labs tanked leaving me at serious risk of infection. So that i why I believe the effects took a while to really slam me into the ground a it has this week. Make sure mom washes her mouth every meal. It will help to reduce the mouth and tongue sores. Best hopes and outcomes.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your reply. Yes she did develop mouth sores and is currently using mycostat drops for that. But unfortunately she developed an infection (pneumonia) last Friday and she is currently in the icu to be treated for this. She is getting antibiotics and oxygen support until things get stable.
