nothing wrong about that feeling. Certainly with your experience as a Nurse you are likely to see things in a different light, but remember literally thousands and thousands of patients all around the world have rectal biopsy’s with no issues. If it is specific to the rectal biopsy, there is the alternative perineum approach. Either way have a experienced Urologist. All of us on just this one site with a diagnosis of cancer have gone through it. Are their cases of infection or other complications, sure but minimal. Even the most routine minor procedures have something like a 3% complications.

    Hi,

I had a biopsy through the rectum over 10 yrs ago with no problems. I took my antibiotics as prescribed before and after, easy peasy. As Wheel said, I think the risk is minimal but see if you can go through the perineal area. In fact I even joked with my Urologist and told him this was my 1st time so be gental.

As wheel already stated, transperineal is the way to go; especially if you are concerned about infections. Not all urologists have experience, but it shouldn't be hard to find one that does.

    Gamethehate3,

Mine was in my urologists office. The anesthesiologist put me under before the biopsy. I never felt a thing and with no following infections. Do not be scared. You can do this. Stay strong.

Now I am five (5) years out and just last month my radiation oncologist stated to me that I am cancer free!!

Had both transrectal and transperineal targeted biopsies. Both times under anesthesia. No big deal at all however had much more blood in my urine and semen with the transrectal and a couple weeks bowel issues caused by the required antibiotics. In my opinion, you'll be fine with either, but if you have a choice, I'd recommend the transperineal. It is the most modern. Ultrasound or MRI guided / targeted is the best. If your talking about a random transrectal biopsy, I'd look for a new doctor.

I also had a trans rectal biopsy in 2012. Last year when my MRI showed cancer, my urologist wanted to do a trans rectal biopsy because that was the only way his practice did it. After research showed that trans perennial was safer and more accurate, I found another doctor affiliated with a cancer center.

I had a TRUS in May 2024, it went bad, nearly died from rectal hemorrhaging. My urologist said he couldn't have avoided it. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Get the trans perineal.

Mine was in my urologists office. He put a small potato like thing in my anus. The anesthesiologist put me under before the biopsy. I never felt a thing and with no following infections. Do not be scared. You can do this. Stay strong.

Jack: Your radiation oncologist is a super optimist. He should have told you NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE.
