Low platelets count
Hi everyone,
my mom has stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasized to the bone and liver, she was stable for a while but recently scans showed progression in the liver. The doctor added carboplatin with abraxane and that made her platelets low. They gave her Nplate injection on Sunday and today (Thursday) she was supposed to take chemo however the platelets were still low so they postponed the chemo for a couple of days to recheck the labs. Just wanted to know if anyone can help me with any advice on how to help raise the platelets? And if anyone had a similar experience cuz im really worried

Hello Amna, I am sorry to here about your mothers condition. I have secondary cancer of the bone as well as the primary cancer. the cancer itself can cause low blood counts but the chemo without a doubt can kill off healthy cells. this is a common problem and can result in anemia. if her blood counts get to low she may have to have a blood transfusion. I have had it before myself for same reasons on blood counts. she also can get the red blood cell booster shots to see if it may help. there is not exact way to fix the problem because not everyone reacts to treatment the same way. I also would add, to make sure she eats enough protein. red meat offers help to aid cell count production. more effective than just chicken, turkey ECT.. I hope this info will help the both of you. God bless you. Amen…
