Calendula oil, aloe vera and lavender oil

I'm starting my CRT tomorrow and have found that some people use calendula oil, aloe vera and lavender oil, applied one after the other, in order to counter the radiation burns. Is that something that anyone on the forum has experience with?

    Hi,

I used an aqueous cream on my skin a few times a day for protection but make sure none is on your skin before radiation and use afterwards as long as the skin is not broken.

I was prescribed, by my oncologist, Solosite wound gel, Duoderm wound gel, and Lignocaine 2% Gel numbing gel (fantastic) but of course check with your oncologists before using anything.

I got told to not use any other creams because of the risk of infection and got advised that if I used baby wipes to make sure they were unscented and didn't contain anything extra like aloe vera etc

    Hope this helps.

Many thanks. Did you use those gels on all areas, including the anus?

Many people find that gentle, natural oils like calendula, aloe vera, and lavender can help soothe skin during radiation therapy, but results can vary depending on sensitivity and the area being treated. It’s usually best to test a small patch first and check with your radiation team to ensure nothing interferes with the treatment. Have you spoken with your oncologist or radiation nurse about whether this combination would be safe for your skin during CRT?

I used the gels on all areas but I used the aqueous cream on my skin only. The Lignocaine 2% Gel numbing gel was a blessing as it helps numb the pain. I also wore no underpants as much as possible and had salt baths. I had no breaks in my skin even though I did have radiation burns.

Also I was advised to use gentle soaps like a baby soap or pears in the shower and lather the soap on my hands then wash that area rather than using soap directly on my skin in that area
