Hello, has anyone had their Taxol infusion reduced by 15% due to extreme side effects?
Hello friends, During my visit with my Onc doc (after my 3rd infusion), I disclosed that I had pretty uncomfortable neuropathy in my feet. I'm an ex snow skier and have had frost bite on my feet/toes about 30 yrs ago. I am now 71. The neuropathy ranged from pins and needles, shock waves up the legs and itchiness.
My onc doc said without hesitation: "I am already reducing your Taxol by 15%" When I voiced an opinion that this reduction may impact the efficacy of my treatment, she said "I've already reduced it." Meaning, no more discussion. So, yesterday, I had my 4th session and it is too soon to tell whether the neuropathy will resume full throttle or will be lessened. Later on this week should tell more.
But my question is: Has anyone had their chemo rate reduced? by how much? and did you notice a decided difference in lessening side effects. If you have any other information relating to this, please let me know what those thoughts are. Thank you, Regards, Susie

I did not experience a dose reduction in my chemo treatments.
But unfortunately, neuropathy is a potential side effect from Taxol for some people. And dosage limitation is one method to try to decrease this effect.
But I have read some studies that have shown that a lower dose administered on a weekly schedule can be an alternative to a higher dose given every three weeks.
Here’s a link to one such study:
Perhaps an option to discuss with your doctor.

Not sure if EZLiving66 (Eldri) still visits or not, but she had such severe reactions, she never finished her entire treatment regiment. She stopped after only 3 chemos. She last stopped in the board on 2024.
I suggest doing a search of her name and you can read her posts.
I think some women have had it changed from Taxol to Taxotere do to side effects, not that Taxotere doesn't have its own issues. I believe permanent hair loss is one of them.
However, the greater issue I hear is your doctor won't discuss this with you.
