reduced dosage whole brain radiation therapy (rdwbrt)
Has anyone had the rdwbrt for primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL)? My wife was diagnosed in October 2021 with PCNSL and refused the HDMTX treatment. She did a different treatment and it worked very well for 4 years. She recently developed a new tumor on her brain that doubled in size in about 50 days. She is currently undergoing targeted radiation therapy, only 5 rounds.
Both the oncologist and the radiologist are saying that she will continue to develop new tumors and the best chance to stop that from happening is either HDMTX with stem cell transplant or rdwbrt.
We are very concerned about the cognitive issues of whole brain radiation. The radiologist is trying to convince us that it is safe. We feel there is not much sense in saving her life if she is going to be basically be a vegetable.
She refused the HDMTX 4 years ago, choosing quality of life over quantity.
