My mom's breast cancer & question about connecting with caregivers

Hi everyone! I am new here, and really glad that I have found a community where I can hopefully give and receive support.

My mom was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in late spring. She has completed her first round of chemotherapy, and fortunately, there are already signs that the cancer is retreating in her left breast and lymph nodes. She will continue chemotherapy every three weeks until around mid-February, after which she’ll likely have a lumpectomy. I live in another country—thankfully not too far away—so I’ve been traveling back and forth to support her, with the help of close friends as well. I wanted to join this community to connect with others, learn how to better support my mom, as well as myself in the process.

That said, are there any initiatives for caregivers to meet online, and would anyone be interested in participating?

Welcome — I’m really glad you found this community, even though I’m sorry for what brought you here. It sounds like you’ve been carrying a lot, especially with traveling back and forth and trying to support your mom from a distance while also taking care of yourself.

It’s encouraging to hear that treatment is already showing signs of working, and at the same time, I know the uncertainty and emotional weight don’t just disappear because of that. Wanting to learn how to better support your mom and yourself is such an important part of this process.

I don’t personally know of formal caregiver meet-ups here yet, but you’re definitely not alone in wanting that kind of connection. There are many caregivers in this space who understand what you’re navigating, and I hope more people chime in. I’d be interested in learning more too.

Wishing you and your mom strength as you move through the next phase of treatment.
