so I just had an old friend of mine who got his first PSA test at 61 and he got bad news. psa was 13 gleason score 9 4+5 good news still contained prostate so he elected to have surgery and of course, the first PSA test was above the minimum so they did radiation and now he's on hormone treatments, but he has a question about diet. I see you know thwhat to not eat and what you should limit and what you should eat, but is that if you still have a prostate or does it also pertain to if you have cancer but no prostate what food you should definitely stay away from to keep your PSA at bay thanks

    Hi,

I don’t know of any foods to stay away from if your Prostate has been removed. A good lean meat diet with plenty of veggies or a straight vegetarian diet would be my diet of choice with or without a Prostate. He could talk to a registered dietitian for suggestions. I would be wary of all the “eat this food” things on the internet as a lot of them are unproven.

    I second the post above.

A healthy diet is recommended for all, whether you still have a prostate or not.

I stick to lots of tomatoes, cruciferous veggies, green tea, and omega‑3 fish, while cutting red meat, full‑fat dairy, and processed foods—same advice works whether the prostate’s gone or not.

and after my prostate was removed I stuck to a lot of leafy greens, berries, tomatoes and whole‑grain carbs, while cutting back on red meat, processed cheese and sugary drinks—same rule whether the gland is there or not. I also try to keep saturated fat low and add omega‑3 fish a few times a week. For easy meals I use https://www.reddit.com/r/mealprep/comments/1p5evjd/today_i_found_out_frive_has_a_hygiene_rating_of_1/ which now seems to have cleaned up its act.

Here are a couple of short videos from where I had my surgery done:

    Eating long-term

    Eating during recovery

No real surprises there, I think
