Secondary Cancer

I have been anemic for 2+ years now and there are multiple lymph nodes under my jaw that have been swollen for 6+ months. Labs have shown low RBC, low Hemoglobin, and low Hematocrit every CBC lab for almost 3 years now - my WBC is currently low, but hovers around normal (never above low normal). My iron panels have all been normal this whole time; however, my endocrinologist and PCP continuously tell me to take more iron supplements. I contacted UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and they recommended that I TELL my care team to refer me for diagnostic tests and not to ask for their recommendation. I’m now waiting for the cancer center to review my medical records and reach out for an appointment.

Has anybody been diagnosed with Leukemia or Lymphoma after Total Thyroidectomy and RAI? Thank you!

I just met with an UC Davis oncologist for the first time last week actually. The labs he ordered (that we have the results for) aren’t looking promising, but he said it’s not emergent. He ordered a bone marrow biopsy with a few other marrow tests to get a definitive diagnosis. They are scheduling out at least 3 months I was told and I haven’t been contacted to secure a spot yet.

Right now I just want to know what’s wrong and if there’s anything that could be done to help with my qol. I’m glad to finally have somebody on my care team that seems to care.

It's not an easy process to walk through. I am a Christian, and I don't know what your religious beliefs are, but I will pray for you. What did help me is prayer and learning to take one day at a time because it can be overwhelming. Please feel free to message me anytime. Thanks for sharing.

I learned a lot about life when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I took a lot of things for granted and learned to appreciate more. I am a Christian and feel like the experience brought me closer to Jesus. Thank you for reaching out and offering prayer. There’s times when I’m overwhelmed with my circumstances, but prayer helps me get grounded.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year in September, but I'm also having to get a biopsy under my chin next week for a suspicious lymph node. I've just learned to pray and take one day at a time. I've had to have 20 sessions of radiation. I'm on #15 as of today. I will be done Feb 9th. Yes, your right prayer really does keep us grounded.
