National Institutes of Health Trial participant HPV16 Tonsil cancer
Without a lot of medical technical details I am a 71 yr old male. Diagnosed with HPV tonsil cancer in May 2025 and received a recommendation to join a trial at the NIH in Maryland designed to change the common treatment protocol - Three rounds of Chemo first 7 weeks apart (June and July 2025) to reduce the tumor of the throat and tonsil; DaVinci robotic Surgery (late July 2025) to remove the tonsil and adjoining tissue in the throat with external surgery removal of 14 lymph nodes. The surgeon suggests the surgery was successful as the tumor was reduced to almost nothing with clear margins and no evidence of cancer in the nodes. No radiation needed. NIH suggested that the Chemo is very effective in reducing the tumor and attacking the cancer.
Just had a PET scan to find out the real story and awaiting results. I reviewing the forum I have not seen too many posts concerning this protocol designed to avoid radiation.
My surgeon was at George Washington Hospital in DC. I understand there is a hospital in Ontario Canada that follows this treatment regimen. Have others experienced this reversed protocol and what are the results?

Pet scan has been reported. All clear. No sign of cancer in the throat or neck remaining nodes. No radiation needed, WOW. So glad to avoid that. I encourage others facing the HPV related head and neck cancer to consider this protocol.
No cancer detected in the prostate bed either so good news there (proctectomy in 2021 for cancer Gleason 9).
Consider HPv 16 throat cancer treated by Chemo, then surgery, with no radiation.
