Mental Struggle with Breast Implants
Hi. I had dbl mastectomy late April and reconstruction surgery for breast implants June 6th. Im struggling mentally making the connection with what I see but no longer feel. Im grieving the loss of my own breats. Is anyone having this experience? Any advice on how to cope? Swelling issues dont help. Hoping to connect with someone who can help me thru this. Replies are appreciated.

Hi FloJo,
Grieving the loss of your own breasts is completely normal. It's a big adjustment to go through. They don't look the same or feel the same as your originals. It takes 6-12 months after having implants installed for your new and unimproved breasts to settle in to place and look like they are going to look as a finished product. I personally had a lot of problems with my various reconstructions. When I was finally done with all the surgeries I was just happy to look "normal" when I am dressed and look at myself in the mirror. Good luck to you 😊

hi there. Sorry for what you are dealing with. I had a double mastectomy + reconstruction last year and my surgeon says it usually takes about a year before you start feeling like they are yours and a part of your body. Your reconstruction was also so recent - know that they will continue to settle over the next year as well. It’s not easy and it’s so hard to accept sometimes but believe it or not, you do get used to it. Everything you’re feeling is completely normal so please give yourself some grace. This is so difficult but you are doing it and moving forward one step at a time. This is my first post so not sure how this all works but feel free to reach out to me directly any time. Hang in there ❤️
