Enlarged Ovary with complex cyst after endometrial cancer stage 1a grade 2
Hi Everyone,
I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer stage1 grade 2 in November 2024. It was found after a hysterectomy because of very enlarged fibroids. I opted out of radiation because of the size and grade. I get exams and scans to keep an eye on things. I was not due for a scan but have been having pain. I opted out of an MRI in April but my oncologist strongly encouraged me to get it since the pain was still there. He also felt something under the skin in my exam this time. I got an MRI today and it shows an enlarged ovary and complex ovarian cyst. It is hard to not go straight to cancer, but truly this could be a recurrence or simply a cyst. I am waiting for my doctor to call but I may not get a call until next week. The ovary is enlarged to 6 cm and the cyst is 6 cm. This explains the pain and pressure. Does anyone have an experience like this?

mdoughty, I am sorry to hear you have something going on so soon, and while it is easy to mentally jump to cancer again, is the plan to have surgery to remove your ovaries? Was the decision not to a complete (radical) hysterectomy when the endometrial cancer was discovered?
Please let us know the plan. If surgery is scheduled and then what your treatment (if needed) will be.
Until then, hang in there - waiting is the worst part.

we didn’t know I had cancer u til pathology came back. I had a dnc 13 months before my hysterectomy with a biopsy that didn’t show cancer. My tumor had grown to what is considered a large size for a tumor. The grade also concerned us but it was not as invasive as it could have been which was on my side. All research showed no treatment for me. I finally made that decision 2 months after surgery.
This is a complete shock that 3 months ago my scan showed nothing and now I have a 6 cm complex cyst and enlarged ovary. It could be absolutely fine but could also be a cancer recurrence.
I will talk to my doctor this week to come up with a plan. I hat the thought of going back to surgery but I also can’t risk this being cancer and not doing anything.

Thank you for updating your first post from a while back. I didn't understand about the surgery until I re-read that and saw you post this update. Now I get the whole picture. I am sorry.
I agree, I wouldn't be rushing to surgery either, but hear you want to do everything you can. I get it.

Just adding that if the MRI report said cyst on the ovary, it is usually a fluid filled sac and not a solid tumor.

Thank you for the positive outlook but it specifically said complex which is more than just fluid: I have talked to my nurse because by doctor has had a few busy days in surgery and she kept saying this is very concerning. I am supposed to hear from my doctor tomorrow with a plan of care.

I hope your biopsy was negative.

I have talked to my doctor and surgery is scheduled for September 8th. I have to get both ovaries removed. I am nervous because cancer or not it is a direct change into forced menopause. I wish it was earlier but he is a busy doctor and I trust him. I am not looking forward to it but I can feel the cyst getting bigger. I want to get it done so I know what I am dealing with.
