Alcohol

I am a rum drinker. Nothing from February thru May. But had some beginning of this month

Next few days were rough. That’s a new thing for me. Any others experience same

Hate to have to stop doing the one thing that gives me a little pleasure. Love having an aged rum on ice. I’m a neat sipper of anything over $100

Thoughts my friends??

Here is what I found early into my post-surgery period. If I drank a couple of beers too late in the day, there would be a good chance I'd have a full Depends during the night. So I avoid it now. Still holding on to coffee.

Thanks. I’m 18 months post surgery and 2 months post 35 radiation treatments. Haven’t had to wear depends since 2nd month after surgery. I did kagels out the rear end for those two months after surgery and it worked well 🎉🎉🎉

But, I do try to stop drinking fluids after 2pm. Other wise, I’m up 2 or 3 times during night to pee. Unlike before surgery, when my bladder gets really full it’s actually painful.

I believe my issue with alcohol is a combination of not being able to get rid of it as fast and my surgery 😩

Currently have 11 1/2 year old adhd grandson visiting for a month. That’s keeping us pretty busy 🤣😳🤣

Yes, consuming alcohol, like coffee, but more so, makes the urine flow because it relaxes the sphincter muscle a bit. So, if your sphincter muscle is less than strong, you will most likely be a leaker while consuming alcohol.

For me, my prostatectomy left me 100% vertically incontinent, so I have an AUS800 artificial sphincter. But, even with this device, if I consume alcohol, and I do, I'll need to wear my Depends, as there is some dribble flow while consuming alcohol.

Just another change that can come about on one's PCa journey.

I was mostly continent after catheter removal, would leak on a sneeze while walking or after too many drinks. Now its no issue. In my case, it has been overcome.

Hey........ we've survived cancer. Drink what you want to when you want to. Wear a Depend on your head if you want to! I'm rooting for you and the rum!

GoGood morning! I know exactly what you mean. I'm a breast cancer (double mastectomy) survivor and the only thing I have to take is tamoxifin but boy oh boy does that change things! A friend of ours is a musician and when we fo hang with him, I know I'm going to have to recoup a couple of days. Doesn't matter if I have a glass of wine or a bottle, it's all awful! I'm so glad you seem to be doing relatively well with your journey and hope you have a FANTABULOUS day!

A different perspective. Caffeine and alcohol are both well known to be irritants to our urinary systems!

My standard daily intake of caffeine is a mug of tea with breakfast and two or three mugs of coffee during the day. No Coca-cola except for rare occasions mixed with a spirit and I've never consumed an energy drink. My standard alcohol intake is the majority of nights (doesn't mean every night) mainly consisting of a light beer before dinner, wine during dinner and for a while afterwards. Incontinence wise, there have certainly been some nights where I've let myself go and so has my bladder lol, but other nights, I leak more when I'm sober. Any correlation between alcohol and incontinence for me is completely erratic.

The trick is to enjoy life!

Maybe of interest is my thoughts about my alcohol consumption in the future. I'm not undergoing ADT yet, but I have already convinced myself that when I do, any alcohol will taste like poison and be unpalatable! Since wine contains plenty of calories, giving it up will negate the weight gain effects of ADT, I hope. I'm ready for it.

    In the meantime, chug-a-lug! 🤪

So we all learned to enjoy a beverage or two! If you want chose moderation, then fine. Coffee, enjoy it too! Have at it!

Let's celebrate, that we all have traveled this far!

CANCER FREE here, as per my radiation oncologist! I'll take it.
