Got diagnosed with IDC

I just found out I have IDC and will have the lump removed in 2 weeks. After I will have to get checked and see if it moved anywhere else. What’s the best course of action? And is IDC curable?

Hi @tinasalcedo4 👋 I got diagnosed with Stage 1 IDC back in March 2025. My tumor was about 4 cm. I also had a DCIS at another location. Both looked like comets/tadpoles. I had a mastectomy last month to remove both areas. I also had a sentinel lymph node biopsy as well. My suggestion is that you request for a sentinel lymph node biopsy as well, since the cancer cells are in the milk ducts there’s a possibility that it could have spread. But to answer your question, yes it’s curable. Treatment depends on if the cancer is HR (positive or negative) and/or HER2 (positive or negative). Also, it depends on your age. I’m in my early 40s and had an Oncotype test and my score was low, meaning no chemotherapy, but I would need radiation to make sure the cancer cells don’t come back. Also, since my cancer was HR+, HER2-, I will be put into early menopause to prevent the cancer from coming back. Best wishes for your surgery. Remember that you’re not alone. I joined a local breast cancer support group and it’s been amazing! If there’s one in your area, you should join it to help with any feelings or questions that you may feel!
