SWOLLEN FEET AND ANKLES

Quite uncomfortable. Had the robotic kidney removal and a 7.1 cm cancerous tumor last Wed. YAY! Seem to have somewhat control over urination now when I am up. Still have to roll out of bed 3 or4 times a night. That is a pain. Am on the best "good for your kidney diet" I could put together. Water is my main drink and about a quart or more a day. I walk now, probably should increase that though. Tell me some good news like the swelling will soon go away or try this to get it to go away. I realize some have a lot more going on but the swollen feet and ankles is mine. TY Oh Was bowling on two leagues, pickleball and tennis hopefully are back again for the future. I am 77, alone, active and happy. Could have been a lot worse. ANY HELP?

Time passing will help…somewhat. The swelling in the legs should gradually go down, but keep walking when you can. It's only been a week. Mine was at the beginning of robots and had spread to liver and nodes, so it was "slice her open and let's look around"- a lot longer to even be able to walk without help.

More than a quart of water should be your goal. Closer to 50-60 ounces of fluids; water, juice. Non-alcohol, few sodas (extra potassium is not good).

You have one kidney to filter the waste and things out of your blood. It has to take over for the whole body. When it gets to the point of "off loading", it literally jets it into the bladder. That's why you suddenly feel the urge to get up and go. (I was having an ultrasound and watched it in color.) It gets more active when you are lying flat at night. And yes, 3-4 times a night is average for our age. I'm 82 and had my right kidney removed 19 years ago.

Do what you can, gradually. And then keep hitting the ball over the net.

    Good Luck and Best Wishes
