See a newborn baby

I am a 67-year-old male who was diagnosed with T1AHG bladder cancer last March. I have had eight sessions of Docetaxel\Gemcitabine with four tumor resections and the cancer is still there. I recently started BCG and have had 3 of the six sessions. My daughter is having my first grandchild 2-23-25 and my sixth BCG session is the first week of March. How long after my sixth session of BCG before it's safe to be around and hold a newborn baby? I appreciate your time and help with this.

Thanks,
Jeff

I had a few courses of BCG over 16 years and never received any guidance about being around others. I was cautioned to used bleach in the toilet after voiding following a BCG treatment if anyone else was going to use the same toilet. Not sure why the caution since BCG is supposed to be using an inert TB bacillus, but perhaps they were just being super careful. In any event, ask your urology provider team for their input.

Every success on your BCG treatment. It is interesting that BCG is being used after chemo instillation.

My last BCG course was in 2020. Since it was during Covid, I could not get a TURBT, since that was classified as low priority. I was finally able to get a procedure at an NCI hospital (about 8 weeks after I should have had one). They found a very aggressive T1HG with CIS that was heading to my kidneys, so had to have my bladder removed in July of that year.

I appreciate you replying to my post! I too am an overachiever and have high grade as well. They are all over the precautions but they are throwing out multiple answers for the same question. I am on my second urologist, the first one came into Pre-Op five minutes before doing the first TURBT and asked if anyone had any questions. My wife works in the ICU at the same hospital and she asked him if he would give us a referral for an oncologist or do we just call one. The urologist proceeded to tell us that I don't have cancer the first biopsy came back negative! It came back positive, so my wife suggested he might want to read my chart again! Again I appreciate your time and help with this. I guess my wife is going to New York to be there when the baby is born and I will be in California with BCG. Good luck with your treatment and again I appreciate your reply.
