Eligard and cardiac side effects

I had my first 6 month injection in October and fortunately have had very few side effects so far. But I have been inordinately worried about the potential cardiac effects of Eligard. So much so that I have been contemplating not continuing on this treatment. I have been diagnosed with Gleason 4+3 with spread to the presacral lymph nodes only. Had 45 radiation treatments and my urologist is recommending 2 years of Eligard.
I am a healthy 74 year old with no previous cardiac issues. I wonder if anyone has had cardiac side effects from Eligard

I responded to your post in another thread.
I emphasized that this is a matter (much) better discussed with your cardiologist.
This is what Copilot (AI) had to say:
Cardiac side effects of Eligard:
Eligard (leuprolide) is a medication used in the treatment of prostate cancer, and like many medications, it can have side effects, including those related to the heart. Here are some potential cardiac side effects associated with Eligard:
- Fast or Irregular Heartbeat: Some patients may experience palpitations or an irregular heartbeat.
- Chest Pain or Discomfort: This can be a sign of a more serious cardiac issue and should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
- High Blood Pressure: Eligard can cause an increase in blood pressure, which needs to be monitored regularly.
- Fluid Retention: This can lead to swelling and increased strain on the heart.
- Increased Risk of Cardiovascular Events: There is some evidence suggesting that androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), including Eligard, may increase the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.
If you or someone you know is taking Eligard and experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on managing these side effects and may adjust the treatment plan if necessary.

Hi,
The side effects of any ADT drug varies so much from person to person it’s hard to tell what you will experience. Like Old Salt said check with your cardiologist and see what they recommend. If there is a smaller dosage pill or shot you might want to start with that to see how it effects you.

So true and thank you. I’ve read many comments from guys having varied side effects and intensity. I’ve been blessed with only minor annoyances with mostly fatigue and some hot flashes and unfortunately testicular shrinkage with loss of libido. Full disclosure, I have been very reluctant to use ADT mostly based on the listed potential cardiovascular side effects. It seems that these potential cardiac effects are pretty rare and those with a preexisting cardiac history might be at a slightly greater risk. With no prior cardiac history, and the comments, I feel less stressed about this issue.
Regardless I’m looking forward to the possibility of limited ADT use or intermittent ADT if possible.
All the best to you.1
