Pain when urinating

I am 10 months post cyberknife treatment and continue to get what I think are side effects of the radiation treatment. The latest one is pain while urinating. It seems to be worse earlier in the day.

I have restarted taking Flo max, which seems to help and Tylenol appears to take the edge off it. Does anyone else have this issue and any suggestions for how to alleviate it.

I recommend a discussion with your Urologist. He/She may want to perform a cystoscopy to see if there is any inflammation that is leading to pain. While a cystoscopy (camera on a wire inserted into the penis to view the urethra and possible the bladder is deemed necessary) may seem like a scary procedure, it actually a complete nothing burger (a numbing cream is applied first). I've had a few of these procedures to view radiation-related inflammation in my bladder, resulting in blood in my urine. In my case, the inflammation and blood eventually subsided.

I second the trip to you Urologist for further investigation. Is it pain or a burning sensation? In the Penis area or internally?

I continue to have painful urination, hard to start flow, and low flow. I have been on Flowmax for 13 months now, post my Cyberknife treatment. I just had a cystoscopy and there was nothing abnormal. I am just frustrated and angry that this and several other side effects were never discussed with me. I recently went to another, unaffiliated urologist that specializes in prostate cancer, and he told me that 40% of his new patients are ALL post Cyberknife patients.

I wish I could offer you advice and/or treatment, but all I can do is offer you my prayers.

Cases of inflammation in radiation treatments (Cyberknife, etc) are common. These can occur within the prostate gland and/or at the surrounding areas. The period that it takes to have the side effects subsided varies. Some guys report 3, 4 months and some 12 or more months.

One can have infection without noticing and others can experience pain due to a case of UTI from bacterial origin.

Not all are due to the radiation treatment.

You need to check it further as above survivors recommended.

I  wonder what other side effects you have experienced with the CK treatment apart from inflammation.

Update on the pain when urinating.

The pain was concentrated at the tip of the penis. When I originally posted, there was almost constant low level pain / discomfort, kind of a burning. This was combined with intense pain while urinating and immediately after. The intensity of both of these was higher first thing in the morning, I could not even tolerate having our cat sit in my lap. As the day went on the pain eased.

At the same time I was suffering from a bout of proctitis, a feeling of fullness and need to defecate, but also constipation ( I believe this is also a side effect of the radiation).

I could not get in to see my urologist, but did see my GP who gave me a cortisone cream to treat the proctitis. As the proctitis symptoms have eased, so has the pain of urination. We are now down to mild discomfort when urinating and no issues the rest of the time. I’m taking this as a win.
