New lump on neck 14 years after treatment Hope its not recurrence Anyone with similar issue?
SCC Base of tongue HPV positive with lymph node involvement, finished treatment Xmas eve 2009 (Radiation, Cisplatin, modified neck dissection to remove mass that was still there- sent to pathology and test came back as dead cancer cells) Everything has been fine since then outside of usual recovery from treatment ,but probably about 6 to 8 months ago I started getting some tingling sensations occasionally in my shoulder ( the side with the lymph nodes were removed - neck dissection ) nothing painful, kind a like your legs feel after they fall asleep and start to comeback. It’s just occasional and no big deal. Asked primary care about it and he said probably just residual nerve damage from surgery so I wasn’t really worried about it. Then about 2 weeks ago I got a bump on my neck ( same side and place as before but I believe a little lower down on my neck) this one has pain when you press on it- not severe. I did a telehealth visit and they gave me a weeks worth of amoxicillin that I just finished yesterday. Bump seemed to get smaller but didn’t go away and actually may be getting a little bigger again. So to be on the safe side I called Johns Hopkins during the middle of last week to schedule an appointment which I have for Nov 19th. Has anyone had experience like this after treatment. Coming up on 14 years since treatment and this is the first of any such problem as this

Scottied, yes but I did not have the same time period.
I had throat cancer treatment, then almost 5 years later a spot on my tongue, cancer, was removed with clear margins, then a little over a year I had a sore area on my left neck and it turned out to be lymph cancer.
Each one after my first cancer I did not fool with, hypersensitive to any oddities after the first cancer, anything unusual I was on the phone to my ENT and set up an appointment.
The second cancer, tongue cancer was obvious, and easily seen.
Third cancer in lymph node not obvious at appointment. I was scoped and checked, ENT felt around the area and said nothing unusual BUT he said let's get a scan just to be sure. Glad he did, I have a good ENT he doesn't fool around.
Only one lymph node, not encapsulated, is spreading.
Long story short he checked the scans and sent me for a biopsy He wanted to send me to Philadelphia for surgery because of my previous radiation and felt they could handle surgery to remove the cancer better there. I opted for a teaching Hospital instead when he offered, Hershey Hospital, Hershey, PA.
So Scottied don't fool around with anything even slightly unusual and it looks like you are doing just that taking it very seriously, get an appointment, which you already did and no matter what they say insist on a CAT Scan With Contrast at the very least. This will show them anything they need to know.
