My experience with Akeega
Akeega is the only FDA-approved treatment with BRAC+ metatstatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. In other words, if you are one of the 1% of men with the BRAC gene the chemical castration drugs will not work against your Prostate cancer. Check with your doctor to find out if you have the BRAC gene. Don't assume that the doctor has ever heard of Akeega or the problems with treatments for your prostate cancer.
My doc was rated the top doc in this area, but apparently he had never heard of Akeega or the BRAC gene problems. He yelled at me during every visit during the 3 years he treated me. My last meeting with him — when he fired me as a patient and put in my medical file that I was a liar. I wasn't taking my medication.
Believe me I took the chemical castration meds for 3 years. That's right, 3 years!! Now I'll never have another erection the rest of my life.
This was not FDA approved when I started taking this a year ago. It has it's side effects (mainly constipation). You will need a prescription for Ondansetron to remove the side effects from the chemo in Akeega.

Hi,
If your talking about the drug Akeega it has a lot more side effects than just constipation. Did the drug work for you?

Interesting new drug for very specific cases.
Just for the record, we all have two BRCA genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2). In some cases, there are mutations in these and some of these mutations lead to a higher risk for certain cancers. Therefore, for patients with metastatic, castrate resistant, prostate cancer, it pays to find out if one has one of these 'bad' mutations. If so, certain therapies such as Akeega ( a combination drug with two components) might 'work'.
PS: An 'ordinary' urologist might not know about this approach, but a medical oncologist should…

It's up and down as far as Akeeze lowering my PSA score. I went down to about a 1.3 level from 13.8 and then for some unexplained reason, it started going back up.
.The "Old Salt" pointed out that I didn't include the difference between BRAC1 and BRCA2. Well I asked my professional doc and he said the cancer folks just refer to them as "BRAC+" when talking about all the BRAC gene variations. This is the gene that causes breast cancer in women and men. Not nit pickin', just saying.
