Understanding Test Results
I'm 81 y/o. In July, my PSA level was 10.l, and further imaging tests indicated some cancer cells in my prostate. The urologist suggested I wait for another PSA test. It is the weekend, and I just got my PSA test results. PSA Total is 8.8, PSA Free is 1.7 and PSA % Free is 19. Before writing, I Googled to understand the results, but I needed clarification on the information. Maybe someone can help me explain the results before I see my doctor.

Hi,
Only a biopsy can confirm and grade(gleason score) cancer if you have any. If you had an MRI which is fairly common for a scan, it will determine suspicious areas that could be cancerous. PSA can vary depending on infections, bicycle riding, having sex the day before or could be BPH which is an enlargement of the Prostate with no cancer. On your upcoming doctor visit he should explain and tell you what the next screening tests should be.
