Endocrine disorders in Rhabdomyosarcoma patients
Hi! I am a childhood cancer survivor who was diagnosed at 4 months old. I am now in my 20s and have recently been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disorder, which is an extreme type of hypothyroidism. I am messaging here to ask if anyone else has experienced this same path of diagnosis, as I know endocrine disorders are prevalent in survivors of head and neck rhabdo. I also implore parents of children recently diagnosed to discuss routine follow-ups to check pituitary function if your doctor has not already.

Welcome, juldevri1, to the CSN Head and Neck discussion forum.
I would just like to interject that my wife has Hashimoto’s disorder and it has had no major problems with it as yet and she has had it for many years. She is monitored for it and has had her thyroid medication changed at times to adjust for it but generally lives life with no major change effects because of it.
So if you have it you should be monitored which involves blood tests to determine your thyroid level and you may need to take thyroid medication.
Here is a link to an article by Cleveland Clinic covering it quite well if you need any info.
Wishing You The Very Best
Take Care, God Bless,
Russ
