Diagnosed in 1953 just before my third birthday. The only treatment I received was surgery. My eye and eye lids were removed. From this point, I have had to deal with the disfigurement of my face. Great family support but once I entered school the trauma began. Diagnosed with PTSD as an adult after a car accident and the sound of the jaws of life trigger a memory of my surgery. There had been some previous PTSD episodes in my life but didn't understand why I felt so bad. I do have memories of the surgery and hospital room that surfaced in nightmares. Please believe your child if they ask about suppressed memories.

As a senior now, I have now brag about being the longest cancer survivor.
