Hi Ron, I also had the DaVinci on Sept 25th and all went well. My only issue right now is with incontinence. I'm almost 3 weeks post cath and doing Kegel's like crazy, but still incontinent. How many weeks until you saw any initial progress (I know its still early), thanks!

Joe_D. I am 4 months past surgery, and have regained most control. I use one pad during the day, and one at night although that one is usually dry in the morning. Sudden movements trigger the only leakage. It seemed like there was no progress at first and then suddenly there was improvement after 4-5 weeks. There are other exercises besides kegels to help strengthen your core. If you get impatient, ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor therapy.

I don't think any procedure can guarantee the trifecta. I had a RALP in March of 2018. My PSA is undetectable; I am continent; I am intimate with my wife. I really did not experience the ED issue. I started to become continent around the 4th month post surgery and dry by the 6th month. To me, the most important marker is the PSA undetectable. My post surgery biopsy was as clean as a whistle. As in any case, you should find a facility and doctor that has a lot of expertise. This is also true if you go the radiation route. Find you a great facility and a radiation oncologist with a lot of expertise in that treatment path. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you Marlon, just chomping at the bit a little and realize time heals all wounds. My Dr did mention physiotherapy if no change after 1 month. The Kegels may be working as just this morning I was able to get up from my desk after sitting for about an hr, and walk a ways to the bathroom, solely relying on the kegel squeeze and was able to void. Much better than grabbing myself while walking very fast to a closer bathroom upon standing. A little victory but a big win! Thanks again for sharing, have a great day!

Hi Joe,
Congratulations and I hope you're continuing in your recovery. I had fairly steady improvements with the incontinence but it took about 6-8 weeks post surgery for things to start normalizing. I'm now three and half months post-up and feel like I'm fairly well back to normal but I do wear a pad inside my underwear more for confidence than need. I find that I have the sensation of leaking if I lift anything heavy but the kegeling while standing up or lifting does help immensely. Keep the faith…it will get better. All my best for continued success and may all your PSA's be ND.
Best regards,
Ron B
