Hi,
If your doing Proton radiation then I do not think you need the gel because Proton does not go past the intended target. Other types of radiation I would do the gel to protect your colon from radiation damage.

I just asked my oncologist today that same question. My oncologist (Dr Jon Prescott) claims he was the first doctor to install OAR in Ohio so his expertise is unparalleled. My prostate is large, 5.9cmx 5.9x4.9cm therefore more chance of side effects and would not recommend. I am undergoing in March IGRT radiation for 45 visits after my ADT therapy.
