Anyone had their ovaries removed as a precaution before age 40?
I am 37 yrs old and had stage 2 breast cancer. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy in Aug. BRACA1/2 negative. My oncologist is suggesting I remove my ovaries to "greatly reduce my risk" of breast cancer coming back. I am at a loss because after reading up on the procedure it appears after oophorectomy before age 45 you are at an increased risk of heart disease, plus bone loss and other side effects. I obviously can't go on hormone replacement therapy. Has anyone had to go through this? How did you decide what to do? My Dr. currently has me on Lupron injections to put my ovaries to sleep but says removing them is much better protection.
