Statins

I've no cardiac issues. My cholesterol is a bit high based on the newer guidelines so doctor recommends I start a statin before beginning treatment..

He says chemo or radiation either one will increase the cholesterol and I should do this now.

Have you heard of or done this?

With everything else I'm going through I don't like having to worry about statin side effects.

I know he's the doctor with his recommendation but I find it curious if it's such a big deal why one of the oncologists didn't mention it. So leaves me to wonder if this is a usual thing or maybe not.

Thanks

CS

@Calmspirit I don't know about a connection between radiation/chemo and cholesterol but my cholesterol has been a bit high and I've been doing everything I can to NOT take statins because I'm afraid of the painful leg cramps they often cause. My doctor has me taking (OTC) Cholestoff, which I had never heard of before, and that brought my cholesterol down but it's still not as low as she wants yet. Fingers crossed.
