Punch biopsy for suspected melanoma for spouse
I am a retired RN, and despite working in medical field for 51 years, I simply cant get a decent appt for spouse. Frankly to me it looks like melanoma but of course may not be. But it does have the characteristics ( the most notable being new growth of dark area with irregular borders, unable to measure diameter due to irregularity). The only derm office who will answer the phone or have portal attended is a cosmetic derm. Primary doc is very willing to give referrals but there is massive wait Tim (4 month, one place a year). The cosmetic derm office does punch biopsies, which I know are not ideal. But at least he can get into the office. Here’s the question: do you think there’s actual harm from a punch other than the accuracy issue?
