    Sunny,

My first piece of advice you are already doing! Knowledge is power! You’re reaching out to ask questions to prepare yourself, educate yourself, and getting prepared in every way possible for your upcoming surgery! That’s one way to help you alleviate fears you are feeling at this time. Remember I told you before to educate yourself about your choices, ask questions, talk to your surgeon about options and why this one is the best for you? You did that! You have decided that this choice gives you the best opportunity for the best outcome! Believe that you are doing what is best for you and your husband to achieve the best possible future. Tell yourself (and him) that you are doing this because it is the best choice for me and I will get through this no matter how scary it feels.

As far as your liquid diet, I had a supply of low sodium chicken broth, jello, 100% cranberry juice (not juice cocktail, and plenty of water. I then transitioned into a well planned low sodium diet primarily with lots of fruits and vegetables as snacks and followed meals put out by the American Cancer Society , and totally eliminated alcohol consumption and only drink water and 100% cranberry juice. I also drink an ensure shake daily, as well as healthy smoothies.

Since I have a thyroid disorder I am always cold so I am typically in warm sweatpants and a loose sweatshirt. I bought sweatpants with a tie waist and pulled them up above my belly button when walking and untied it and left it loose while lounging. I found it hard to sit and preferred using a recliner. I could only sleep on my back so I had at least three pillows to arrange in a comfortable reclining position in bed.

Immediately after surgery I needed pain management but I was pleasantly surprised to find out I only needed medication for 2-3 days post surgery. I was up and walking around soon after surgery and found that not taking medication helped me recognize my limitations. I tend to want to do more than I should and feeling that uncomfortable soreness helped keep me in check. I learned to be good to myself, did not overdo anything, yet was still walking and doing reasonable chores . The worst thing you can do is push yourself and do more harm than good. Remember to be good to yourself!

The last piece of advice is to reach out and ask for help if you need it in any way. It’s not a sign of weakness, but your body is recovering and it’s ok to accept help!

I am sending you positive energy and well wishes, you got this!!

A little venting.. I went for my pre-op did all the blood work EkG, everyday i am preparing my self for this surgery. telling myself it needs to get done. Of course i get a phone call from the hospital stating that i need to get cardiologist clearance do to a new find on the EKG. Apparently I have a lower bundle branch block. Wow good luck getting an appointment quickly where i live, all the cardiologist i called are booking out till end of November middle of December. What to do? I did not go through all this just to have this surgery cancelled, and start all over again. The closer I get to the surgery day the more fear i feel.. I got on the phone with the urologist they recommended there cardiologist. My brain thinking hard i gave a try to the heart center where i live. I am happy to say i was able to get an appointment for tomorrow. I told my husband if they do not clear me the surgery was not meant for this time. My surgery is on Thursday and i am scared, even though i know in my heart everything will be fine.. I would like to Thank you again all for your support! I will reach out once i am feeling better and to give support to those in need also.. Sunny

Hi sunny. I had a somewhat similar situation when I had my partial in 2016. Apparently, I have some kind of strange heart beat. I couldn’t begin to tell you what it is because the terminology at the time was about 50 miles over my head. Fortunately, they were able to call the hospital where I had two emergency abdominal surgeries in 2004 and 2010 and they were able to confirm that I made it through the anesthesia each time. When I asked my urologic oncologist about it, he said, and I quote, “**** covering”.

I have been cleared for surgery by the cardiologist. I do have a Lbbb but my heart is functioning normal. Next week is the big week. ? has anyone ever experienced nerve pain after the surgery and if so how long did it last, did the nerve pain ever go away?

It's hard to say exactly. I had a tiny bit of phantom nerve pain in the first week, but it was never bad and it went away. But that was just my experience - maybe mine was better because my procedure was laparoscopic? Or maybe it was worse?

Hard to say for sure, except to say that this kind of thing is par for the course. Despite the surgical precision, it's still a bit of work to your body, and it'll take a few days/weeks/months to get it back to a new "normal".

FoxHD used to say that you'll be hyper-aware of every ache and pain for some time to come. You'll be okay. Keep a journal if you want to track that stuff.

    You're gonna do great!

I did not have nerve pain, per se, but I did have a numb feeling in my right hip for quite a while after surgery, perhaps nine months or so. I laughingly asked the surgeon why he hit me with a baseball bat. His only thought was that perhaps the position I was in during the surgery may have stretched something. It didn’t affect my movements and, as I said, there was no pain, just some numbness.

    Hello Everyone.

I just want to take moment and say thank you for all your tips advice and encouragement. I would be walking around with cancer if it wasn't for all of you who took the time to help me make the proper decision for my self.

I got my results finally yes it was cancer. I am on the follow once a year for 5 years. no other treatment necessary.

I also found out that i am allergic to the Derma-bond glue they use to keep my incision closed and that is why i was severely itchy.

I was going to update my recent post but i do not see the editing tool. Does anyone know how i can update my post or do i need to post a new update seperately?

Again Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to me and help me through a very difficult time. I really appreciated it. Sunny.
