PSA 25 at age 71, what to expect?

Hi, My dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, and his PSA level 25. Need your help to understand what to expect going forward. I am worried.

Yes, to give a reasonable response, one would want to know a lot more, including the results of any scans

Hi,

Looking at the next steps I would imagine some nuclear scans will take place like a PET scan to determine the location and spread of his cancer. Once his doctor team(urologist and oncologist) determine if the cancer is contained within the prostate they can talk about what type of treatment(radiation or surgery or both) is needed to put your fathers cancer in remission. In my opinion great doctors + great facilities = great results. I have included a link to get you some basic info on treatment protocols.

Hormone therapy is usually just the start; it's very likely that further treatment will be recommended, especially for a Gleason 9 case.

Thanks. Yes, they are going to start Radioactive Therapy soon. Also, going to other doctors who will be prescribing medication.
