Stage iv colorectal cancer
Hi,
my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer mets to the lungs and liver. He also has a peretonial carcenoma. He just finished 13 cycle of folfox. Everything has shrunk but they wont operate. They say the cancer will only travel more if we stop the chimio to operate. So continue chimio forever…
should we get a second opinion? What are your experiences to survive? My husbans in only 37 years old and in very good shape otherwise. Did not even stop running his company during this hard times
thanks

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I am sorry that you have found yourself here, on behalf of your husband.
He is awfully young, but that can be a good thing. Young and strong, really helps fight the fight.
I would say that it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. We have had members here, who have had surgery with a second Oncologist, when their first said it would not work. I don't think it would hurt, to have someone else take a look at his case.
I wish your husband all the best, and you too. It truly is a struggle.

Yes - seek a 2nd opinion. Our experience is that where one surgeon won't operate, another might. My wife was turned away by one surgeon for peritoneal mets (following liver mets just a few years earlier) and told to go do more chemo, and then went to a second surgeon where he agreed to do the surgery, which was a success.

I am so sorry to hear about your husband. My husband is newly diagnosed Stage IV with peritoneal mets and some minuscule suspicious nodules in lung (but not confirmed mets). From the onset, the oncologist has said chemo for life with no surgery even though the lung mets has not been confirmed (and no mets in liver). He is starting chemo tomorrow so I will be following to see if you are able to get your husband the surgery. From everything I read, the best chance of OS is chemo +surgery. Sending prayers for positive outcomes.

Yes most definitely seek more opinions! Keep seeking until you find someone willing to do more.. I got 2 opinions after my local oncologist said “chemo for life” and finally got an answer of “finish 10 of the 12 rounds of FOLFOX and come back for scans. At that point we will see how well it has worked and decide if radiation or surgery is best option” I have stave iv with lung and liver mets. Few in lungs but many in liver.
prayers up for you!
