My wife had a second bout of breast cancer in her other breast and was treated with Taxotere and two of the side effects are extremely dibilitaing her and trying to find out if there are any treatments to ease her pain and discomfort? Her primary doctor can't help and her oncologist really has no answers either. Thank you in advance for anything you can help her with.

It would help those of us who have taken Taxotere if you would specify which side effects your wife is having. I had many side effects but cannot begin to answer your question at this point. Thanks.

She has extremely swollen calf's and ankles and burning. Constant tearing. Painful finger nails.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Ah yes. I remember those days. They were 12 years ago. I actually lost 8 fingernails and 2 toenails. They were indeed tender but other than being careful and wearing gloves when doing dishes there really was not much that could be done. They all grew back normally except for 1 fingernail.

The constant tearing is another matter entirely. My eyes STILL water unless I am sleeping. I have consulted with an oculo-facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon. This is a highly specialized ophthalmologist who deals with problems of the ducts. She told me that the puncta of my eyes were damaged by the Taxotere- an issue she'd seen all too frequently. It is a rare side effect but not unheard of. She attempted to clear the ducts via surgery but they were too damaged. Apparently during the administration of Taxotere the eyes should be frequently flushed and that was not done in my case. I strongly suggest your wife consult such a specialist NOW.

I wish her the best of luck. Please keep us posted.
