No referral to a doctor

I was diagnosed with IDC and from the Hospital where they did my biopsy, I was referred to appointment with surgeon, without the chance of talking to a specialist before. Is this normal?

That's what happened with me. The radiologists who did the diagnostic work & the biopsy, and the surgeon, we're in touch with my GP, though. I was ok with this,maybe because mine was early stage.

After I went through the testing I was referred to an oncology surgeon. She was the one to discuss my diagnosis and options.

ASK the surgeon for a referral to an oncologist. It might be that he/she is an oncology surgeon. They will know. Never hesitate to ask questions. Good luck to you!

Should have noted that the surgeon was an oncology surgeon. I thought you meant wanting a medical oncologist first. Sorry!
