Can very cold a/c be detrimental to a recovering lung cancer patient? Both my dad (at age 68) and my uncle (at age 71) died from lung cancer. My brother (age 61) now has been fighting it for 2y6m. The last 3 cat scans show cancer is in remission. His cancer numbers are up in the 70s. He has a hard time to breathe and an almost continuous pain above the dr’s ‘normal’ 1-10 scale! Can the very cold air conditioning his wife insists on having set at 60degrees be detrimental him? Thank you far my information about this!

As far as I know, breathing in cold air—especially the dry, recirculated air from systems like ductless mini split HVAC units—can irritate the airways, causing them to narrow or become inflamed. For someone with compromised lungs, this can make it harder to breathe and increase coughing or wheezing.
