Help? Laser-Assisted Periodontal Regeneration With the LANAP Protocol
Has anyone had LANAP for gum disease? I’m having a procedure tomorrow and could use some help. My radiation oncologist has said that HBOT is required for extraction or surgery on the bone. This procedure addresses periodontal gum tissue disease. No extraction or bone surgery with this procedure
I’m wondering if anyone out there has had this procedure and how did it go? I’m very nervous about this.

Hello Bunnymom. Thanks for posting this. I have never heard of it but now have checked it out and I think it is something that could be a valuable tool for us H&N folks. Since radiation, many times has an effect on our dental health. This will not work for every situation we may run into but it looks like a very promising option for many folks. From what I have read it looks like a good alternative to many of the older methods to treat gum problems. Bunny I think this is a good choice from what I am reading, It is a good alternative to standard surgery for gum disease and receding gums and is less invasive. How does LANAP procedure work?
Traditional gum surgery is a thing of the past. With Laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP), your periodontist will use a laser to target and remove diseased tissue. This means that you won’t need to worry about scalpels and painfully removing gum tissue. Instead, LANAP provides a far less invasive procedure with faster recovery times.
At times it would not be a good choice or work for folks mainly if your condition is too far advanced so it is best to really monitor your teeth with your dentist and like many things involved with H&N, stay ahead of it.
The only downside to LANAP is that the treatment may not be right for you if your periodontal disease is too advanced. In those cases, you’ll have to undergo alternative procedures that may include the removal and replacement of the teeth. This is why you should speak to your dentist right away if you suspect you may have gum disease. LANAP offers a simple solution that can naturally restore your gum health providing your gum disease isn’t too far advanced. There are virtually no downsides, and a quick recovery means that you can get back to a healthier, better life quickly.
For more info just search LANAP. Lots of info and mostly from places providing this procedure but very informative. Below are several links to information on this procedure.
Here is one with videos embedded in the site which makes it easier to understand.
I found this----- Will LANAP Regenerate My Gums?
One of the unique characteristics of the LANAP technique is that while it is being performed, it will activate proteins (called “growth factors” due to the fact that they stimulate and promote the regeneration of tissue and bone cells).
Additional benefits of LANAP include:
- Less painful than other treatments for gum disease
- Will result in less post-procedural sensitivity, swelling, and bleeding
- No contraindications
- Halts the progression of gum recession
- Faster healing process
- Procedural experience is more comfortable
- Corrects gum disease quickly
