About my mom's cancer (squamous)- looking for some guidance and help
I am not sure this is even allowed but I am need of some and all information anyone can give me. My mom was diagnosed with cancer last week. We are finding out that my mom's insurance is not covering the PET scan that is required to see if it has spread and it will not cover any chemo or radiation that the doctor says she needs. Does anyone know if there are programs out there that would help? The PET scan that she is doing tomorrow is being paid out of pocket: 1200.
I can not even fathom was out of pocket radiation and chemo would be. It is so frustrating to see that someone who pays for insurance is not covered for certain things. We are obviously devastated and shocked and lost.
I am just hoping for some guidance, answers, anything at all to get us through this difficult time.
If you have gotten this far, thank you so much for any and all information: what to expect as a daughter watching her mom go through this, what she can expect, etc.

Hi Apperin,
Thank you for reaching out for help for you mom. I know the costs of cancer can be very high. Paul61 shared some good resources, but I did want to clarify that the Society does not provide any direct financial assistance. We do help with questions about her cancer as well as can assist in finding resources that may offer some relief. Please reach out to us at ACS's National Cancer Information Center. You can call our toll-free number, 1.800.227.2345, where Cancer Information Specialists are available around the clock every day of the week to speak with you. You can also utilize the Live Chat feature Monday through Friday between 7am-6:30pm CST on www.cancer.org.
Best,
Ken
