Thanks again Don well presented and explained. I know what you mean about that first taste of any food when you have not eaten by mouth for a long time it is just Mmmmmmmmmmmmm good heavenly even though it is the smallest thing. This video should be very helpful for people getting ready for TORS. You described the process and aftermath very well and how to deal with them. I had the nasal tube also in my last cancer episode but got a Gtube put in my belly after they realized it was going to be needed for a while. Really disliked the nasal tube and having that thing coming out of my nose seemed to always be in the way. I say this a lot but if you are getting treatment that involves a possible feeding tube (Gtube) don't put it off get it ahead of time and it is only temporary and can easily be removed when not needed anymore. (My Opinion and I Have Had 2 of Them) Take Care-God Bless-Russ

Also for my nasal tube, they had a guy come around once it was in and he put up inside my nose what they called a bridle that I think put a hole through the center inside piece if your nose by putting a cord or something up each side of your nose and it cut through by them moving and it would make a hole through and the cord would go through the centerpiece inside your nose and hold the nasal tube in place. Really painful to put in. And I could see this coming mine came loose after several days and they went to put another bridle in and I couldn't stand it, brought tears to my eyes, too much pain, I just told him to stop No more. They then used tape on my nose but grease from my skin made it keep coming loose but it worked till I got a Gtube in my tummy.

You started early and have endured things your whole life many of us never know about.
That's the first I have heard of TPN and I looked it up.

Wow, the woman you described I don't know how she takes it and works.
It seems the nasal tubes are good for the short term but if you are going to need this kind of medical
help for a longer period the Gtube is much better.

I am sure all of us on here want to avoid any more feeding tubes if possible but are certainly a blessing when you need them.

My first

Hey Russ,

My first Nasogastric tube was at age 17.  Instead of using it to feed me, they used it to drain my stomach.... And I was Fed by TPN, in my veins.

I have had TPN st least twice, many many years before my cancer.

And of course now I have a Gsstrostomy tube, permanently.... If the Hospitalist from this latest admission had her way, ( with this latest bacterial pneumonia)--- she would make me go totally NPO, forever. 

Because sad fact is, my swallow is shot.  Its dangerous.

Hey, I read on the Oley Foundation forum of a lady who has a Nasogastric tube full time, and she works!!  Wow, I could not take that punishment!!
