Received good news today
First I want to thank everyone for their prayers, support and great information during this scare I was having thinking the lump near my tonsil might be cancer. I didn't know what else to think since I have already had oral cancer on my tongue. We need to take Russ's advice when he tells us it isn't cancer until they say it is cancer. I worried myself sick about this for months needlessly.
I saw my ENT today and he told me that what I have is a tonsil cyst and that it is benign and he isn't worried about it. He gave me the option of just keeping an eye on it, removing the entire cyst or biopsy. I opted for removing the cyst which he attempted in his office but with my gag reflex it didn't work out too well so he removed a piece of it for a biopsy for my peace of mind. I may still opt to have it removed on an outpatient surgery basis if it grows but for now I am just relieved.
Thanks again for all of your support.

Congrats
Congrats on the good news also a question if it''s okay ? My dad's last pet scan showed thickening at the base of the tongue and a increase in FDG Uptake . He has had a neuofibrama in his throat for a very long time but he's going to a ENT to get it checked out . Without a biospy how did they find out it's just a cyst ? Did they do a CT scan or something ? Just trying to figure out what to expect for my dad he has been battling rectal cancer but this is new to us .

... but great news! I'm happy for you! Yes, listen to Russ. He is a great source of knowlege and inspiration... and, in this case, just good old common sense.
You are right when you say this is great news!

Great news and what a relief! Now go on with enjoying living!
I plan to start that tomorrow. It is supposed to be a very nice day and I am having a friend over to socialize (distanced of course) on my deck to celebrate.

I had no CT scan or biopsy prior to the diagnsosis. My ENT did a biopsy today just to ease my mind but I won't have the results for probably a week. He is very experienced and he could tell just by looking at it that it is a tonsil cyst. He specializes in cancer so I am going to trust him on this although I may decide to have the cyst surgically removed later on. I do still have some concerns but I think sometimes with experience the doctors can tell what something is without testing it. I would think in most cases a CT scan and biopsy would be required to figure out if something is cancer. I hope things work out well for your dad.

Even if we have a history of cancer there are many other things that could be causing new lumps and suspicious looking areas. Thanks for your support.

You might want to start a new topic to see if anyone can help you with your questions. I have had a lot of people on this discussion board give me great information and they might be able to give you some input as to what to expect for your dad.
