Not diagnosed, but scared...

Hi, I'm new here. I have symptoms, and I am scheduled for an endoscopy on 11/2/20.  I have had issues with swallowing for about 2 years,...but it has been significantly worse for about the past 9 months or so.  I was referred to a gastroenterologist a few months ago, and had zero thoughts about CANCER, and it still has not been brought up.  I had a swallow test, which showed I have "Jackhammer esophagus" which just means I have weird muscle spasms in my esophagus when I swallow.  I have had an issue with hoarseness since Labor Day weekend. My throat has been sore, I have a cough, and it just won't go away.  With the COVID situation, I haven't been jumping at the chance to go to my doctor's office.... and today I plugged my symptoms into google (never a good idea, I know) and damned if "esophageal cancer" didn't pop right up!

Am I being ridiculous here to worry about this? I have not lost weight, I do not have pain in my chest... my main issue is that I have issues with swallowing around 2-3 times per week during my evening meal... and that's it for that meal... no finishing it.. and I have to spit out any food that's in my mouth at the time.... It is an awful feeling. Nothing will go down, and nothing will come up, usually.  Last night, when I "burped".. a bit of fluid did come up. (sorry for gross description)  I also get the hiccups frequently when I start to eat, and I see that this is also a "symptom".  I am worried.  Any input, whether positive or negative will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello

Hello,  You don't sound like a typical EC case, which is good for you.  But some of what you describe does sound like you should be checked for EC.  Hopefully, your issues are something less serious.

    Best Wishes,

    Ed
