KRAS and NRAS Wildtype Positive
The results came back from my tumor. It looks like more good news. My doctor and I had a long discussion about all options, pros and cons. He is totally letting me steer my ship and for that I am grateful. He was compassionate and honest. We talked abou the alternative therapies He supported me in my decision to not do anything for six months unless I have pain or any other issues else where in my body. We discussed if the small % of time that could POSSIBLY be bought by treatment was worth the possible side effects and other issues that could arise. For me, the answer was no. I am going to take my trip to Ireland in March and when I come back, we will do a CT scan and bloodwork to see what the tumors are doing. He also gave me the name of a doctor in Charlotte at the Carolina Biooncology Institute who is doing trials with immunotherapy and told me he would set an appointment up with him if I was interested. The unknowns and side effects of those scare the hell out of me as well. Skin rashes, hair loss, thyroid damage and the list goes on...I don't think so. We also discussed the many unknowns of these trials and what comes with trying them. He also said radiation was on the table as an option if the bigger lung tumor grew and cause problems. He basically laid out what we could do but ultimately supported me in the "watch and wait" choice. I told him I would absolutely not have a port placed again to which he suggested oral Xeolda if I changed my mind on chemo but also commented on the severe hand and foot issues seen with the drug. So, all in all, I felt like he listened to me and was honest about where things stood and what potential benefits the different options offered as well as the effects on my quality of life. The more I learn about cancer, the more I realize how little is truly know about it when you really strip it down to bear bones. When I think of cancer, I almost see it as the cyborg in the Terminator that could change shape and form on a dime. So, the big talk is behind me. I will keep moving forward with my life and will keep you guys posted if any major things come about. If you guys have any info to share on the KRAS and NRAS Wildtype, it would be welcomed. I see the basics of certain blockers and the chemos that don't work when you have it. Anything anyone knows or could add would be welcomed. Happy New Year to all of you and big hug!!!M

Looking forward
It sounds great that you will have the opportunity to do the Ireland trip this Spring. Sometimes goals like that act as both anchors and motivators. I agree that the disease and its treatment and progress are not well mapped out. I don't doubt the sincerity of the doctors I see, but sometimes I do doubt the depth of their knowledge and understanding. My biggest hope is that you will be an exception and keep thriving for years. Actually, thinking about your post, March in Ireland? I went there in June once, and it rained on all but one day. What is the weather like in March? Be sure to pack some gore-tex shoes and an umbrella. Despite the rain, I had a great time in Ireland and I am sure that you and your daughter will too. Thanks for the update.

Trip
It's a good thing you have such a wonderful trip planned. Go, have fun, and then come back and deal with the situation. It sounds like you had a great talk with your doctor about how you feel and moving forward. It's important that both of you are on the same page.
Right now, you do what you feel your heart and head tells you and move forward.
Hopefully, things will stay stable for quite some time and you can hold off on any immediate decisions.
